Tanjung Simpang Mengayau

Located at the northernmost tip of Borneo, the world’s third largest island, Simpang Mengayau is a striking headland within the Kudat Peninsula, approximately a three and a half hour drive or 215 kilometers away from Kota Kinabalu City.

Translated as ‘lingering junction,’ Simpang Mengayau serves as the meeting point where the South China Sea converges with the Sulu Seas from the east, offering breathtaking sunsets and full moon views. The Pulau Kalampunian lighthouse stands as a testament to the area’s perilous coastline and historical shipwrecks, while the adjacent Pantai Kalampunian boasts a picturesque beach with pristine white sands and captivating azure waters.

Visitors can easily explore the area, taking a leisurely stroll to the flagpole, the Globe, and the rocky outcrop marking the “Tip of Borneo.”

Facilities on-site include a café, souvenir shop, and washrooms. For those wishing to extend their stay, various room and chalet options are available for rent along the scenic beachfront.

Accessing Simpang Mengayau is convenient, with options including taxi, self-drive, or guided tours. Four-wheel drives and saloon cars with permits are stationed near the Indian Restaurant opposite the Health Clinic in Kampung Air, offering transportation services at reasonable rates. Four-wheel drives can accommodate 7-8 passengers at RM20.00 – RM25.00 per person for a return trip, while saloon cars can carry up to 4 passengers at RM240.00 for a round-trip journey to Simpang Mengayau.
